Talking Heads – And She Was

Any band that calls an album “More Songs about Buildings and Food” is already streets ahead in my book.

My first introduction to Talking Heads was as a wide-eyed schoolboy. One of my more musically knowledgeable pals was into Talking Heads and Devo, pretty sure I’d only got as far as Phil Collins by that stage in my musical journey so I consider myself awoken by the heads (thank you Michael Willis!).

When Little Creatures came out I was already a big fan but this album really cemented my lifelong infatuation with David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz and Jerry Harrison. Every track on that LP has a place for me, but I’ve picked “And She Was” for no other reason than it’s track 1.

One of my great regrets – never got to see them live.
