I’d been aware of Beak for a while before giving them a proper listen after seeing them at the End of the Road festival (possibly 2016?). Their live shows are slightly off kilter, bassist Billy Fuller sits on a chair at the front of the stage while drummer Geoff Barrow, of Portishead fame, provides the sarcastic banter. Multi-instrumentalist Will Young (not that one) adds in the detuned, wobbly synths and a smattering of guitar.
Their Bristolian accents, dry humour and not taking themselves too seriously are all part of their charm, but they are fantastic musicians with a fine back catalogue of experimental rock to revel in.
